United States federal holiday of Dr. Martin Luther King day, will be observed on January 20th, 2014. The floating holiday is observed every year on the third Monday of January, in order for the date to be close to his birthday, which was on January 15.  President Ronald Reagan signed the holiday into law in 1983, and it was first observed in 1986.

Dr. Martin Luther King’s Jr. Memorial during the 2013 Cherry Blossom Festival in Washington DC. The official address of the monument, 1964 Independence Avenue, S.W., commemorates the year that the Civil Rights Act of 1964 became law.
